What Brad Has to Say

What catchphrase do most of your patients remember you by?

What aspect of movement do you find the most fascinating?

Gait. It is incredible how many compensations people develop in their walking pattern over time from years and years of minor aches and pains. The changes that we can make in a single session by working on gait mechanics still amazes me.

It’s also interesting to see how different everyone’s view can be of what physical therapy is. I love getting to show Functional Manual Therapy to people who have never experienced it before.

Where did you earn your physical therapy degree from?

I earned my Masters of Physical Therapy from Northern Illinois University. It was three intense years but I am proud to have made the Dean’s List as well as been a part of three honor societies. I made great friends from each course and clinical rotation as we all tried to memorize anything and everything about the human body. I also had the opportunity to be mentored by the renowned PT Ken Olsen who was helped to foster my current work ethic.

Which patients are your favorite to work with?

Seeing a variety of patients makes each and every day a unique experience. It is incredible working with so many different people, seeing patients as young as 6 and as old as 96. The contrast in the treatment approaches we take can be night and day and always keeps me on my toes.

I do find neck pain cases intriguing because though their signs and symptoms vary so broadly, many can be traced back to poor segmental mobility and control of the upper and lower cervical spine.

What certifications do you have?

I became a Certified Functional Manual Therapist in the fall of 2017. I love working with my hands and creating immediate improvements for patients during each visit. From taking postgraduate continuing education courses, my eyes are open to the fact that improving function through manual work is the most effective treatment I know.

I am currently taking courses in Functional Dry Needling through KinetaCore to compliment my manual therapy techniques.

Why do you work for Body Gears?

I have been with Body Gears since I graduated to work alongside some of the country’s top Certified Functional Manual Therapists. Working in a collaborative atmosphere continues to improve my own manual therapy skills even after becoming certified.

I remember when I was doing interviews as a new grad and shadowed therapists at a few different clinics. Body Gears was the only clinic where I had no idea what techniques the therapists were using with their patients, yet they were all getting better! I knew this was the place to come and work to become a better therapist.

How do you stay active?

I go to the gym on my days off and work on strength training and cardio. I also like to keep up on all my yard work and house projects.

Describe your perfect Saturday.

I enjoy spending my weekends with my friends and family, especially my three young nieces. I’m a football fanatic and live and die with the Chicago Bears and Florida Gators.

What Patients Have to Say About Brad

“I have had physical therapy several times before in different places but never had thorough, careful, attention and therapy as I had at Body Gears. My therapist Brad studied my back muscles and worked on the ones that needed help. The therapy assistants were careful to help me do my exercises correctly and safely. Everyone gave clear instructions. Everyone was nice and friendly. I am feeling better and know now how to continue working with my back to prevent the pain and strengthen my back muscles. I would definitely go again if I need further therapy.”

“After few accidents in my life, I have lived in pain for over 20 years. Can you imagine that? I had to learn how to do it. It is easy. I close my eyes and I breathe deeply until I feel a weaker pain. I tried many massage therapists, chiropractors. Nothing brought the effect which Brad gave!!! WOW!!! I’m totally impressed. I didn’t believe that I will ever live without my “sweet” pain. I have only two more visits but I will be back next year to see BRAD!!! My recommendation is BRAD!!!“

Aga I. (Body Gears Graduate)

“Brad is an excellent therapist. He is knowledgeable, caring, compassionate and kind. He has worked above and beyond with me for multiple issues, spinal fusion, permanent damage to the ulnar nerve, artificial disc replacement surgery for neck and currently recovering from brain surgery. I have never doubted Brad’s expertise and ability to help me through these issues. He is one in a million.“

Body Gears Graduate

“Brad in the Wheaton office is an amazing therapist. He has worked by my side through multiple surgeries and chronic medical diagnosis. He always has my best care in mind and goes above and beyond to give me the best treatment. If it were not for Brad, I would not be able to walk as well as I can or have as much use of my arm that I have regained. He truly is a master in his craft and cares about his patients.“
