What Freda Has to Say

What aspect of movement do you find the most fascinating?

The beautiful integration of mechanical, neuromuscularand motor control that allows humans to perform amazing feats.

Where did you earn your physical therapy degree from?

I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Midwestern University in 2009. It was rigorous, but I met a lot of people that will be lifelong friends and colleagues.

Which patients are your favorite to work with?

I love working with any patients who actively work towards achieving their goals. I alone am unable to make someone feel better or get rid of someone’s pain. If someone can recognize where making changes and working hard will help them to get themselves better, we’ll make a great team.

What certifications do you have?

I am a Certified Manual Physical Therapist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists since completing an intensive program at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2017. I am certified to implement the Functional Movement Screen, Astym Soft Tissue Therapy, and Functional Dry Needling Level 1. I would like to become certified in Functional Dry Needling Level 2, the Schroth scoliosis method, CrossFit Instruction Level 1, and possibly yoga or Pilates instruction.

Why do you work for Body Gears?

The environment here is one that encourages me to be openminded and the appointments are structured to be one-on-one so that I can spend hands-on time with all of my patients.

How do you stay active?

Through habit. I have a daily exercise routine that could consist of CrossFit, yoga, running, swimming or biking and I also enjoy doing physical recreational activities like hiking, water skiing, snow skiing, wakeboarding and walking my dog. The key for me is to get outside and try new things as much as possible and I like helping my patients do the same!

Describe your perfect Saturday.

An early morning of waterskiing followed by coffee, then maybe a nap or a walk with my dog. I love spending my days on a boat with some good music, friends, and family, ending the day with dinner and a bonfire in the evening. That would be a really good day.

What Patients Have to Say About Freda

“Freda has been my primary PT person and her careful and constant analysis as she evaluates how my body is responding, making effective treatment adjustments and then she gives me exercises to reinforce the work she has done is so effective. I had significant improvement within two treatments. When she was out of town, I saw Bob, another exceptional therapist, and later onFreda asked him to do some ‘dry needling’ (almost like acupuncture) where she thought I needed it. During the 2nd treatment, I could feel an odd and strong, sensation, almost like there was an electrical current, going down into the sore area.  Within 24 hours there was another dramatic decrease in the remaining pain. Between the therapy that Freda is doing, Bob’s treatments and the exercises they have me doing, I have very little discomfort anymore. Even more importantly, I can tell that their focus is twofold . . .  first, to identify the issue and eliminate the pain and then secondly, to build strength and stability in the weak areas to prevent the problem from recurring. I am so impressed by them and many of their support team too . . . particularly Bo, who does everything to ensure that you understand the correct techniques for the exercises so that you get the most out of your efforts! Thanks, Body Gears for getting me functioning so much better!”

What Patients Have to Say About Freda

“The PT experience here is unlike any other place we have ever had. Freda has been my primary therapist and she has consistently managed to figure out how to keep improving my disease-caused limited range of motion. I also prefer the significantly longer time w/the therapist and the ‘hands-on’ manual physical therapy method. Combining that and ‘dry needling’, when appropriate, has made a huge difference for me. The support staff is excellent too.”
