What Garrett Has to Say

What aspect of movement do you find the most fascinating?

What I find most fascinating about human movement is the essence of it. What I mean by that is the reason we have bodies IS TO MOVE. There is a varied amount of movement (intrinsic or extrinsic) that is a primary determining factor in the functionality or health of nearly every structure in our bodies (joints, muscles, bones, organs, blood, arteries, cells… it goes real deep.) Taking that understanding and trying to help the body move in the way that it was designed and seeing its effects is one of the most interesting and amazing things I know.

Why do you work for Body Gears?

I want to work in an environment that supports its therapists to have an appropriate time to connect with each patient. This connection fosters an environment where each patient’s uniqueness and complexities can be better understood, especially in situations where other treatment methods may have failed in the past. Body Gears supports each of these ideas which allows for the creativity to interact with the science and art of Manual Medicine so that progress can be made in ways that may not have otherwise seemed possible.

Additionally, Body Gears has been instrumental in supporting my progression through becoming a Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT) which was a major reason why I moved to Chicago.

How do you stay active?

All sorts of ways, from the most basic to the much more complex. I enjoy going for long walks, running (half marathons > marathons), cycling, playing soccer (my bread and butter for many years), strength/interval training, rock climbing, and beyond.

I have recently spent most of my exercise time bodyweight strength training with an emphasis on mobility (gymnastics strength training.) There is so much to learn about every movement practice and only so much time to dig into each. I am always looking for ways to learn more about the capacity of our amazing bodies.

Which patients are your favorite to work with?

People who are motivated about getting better and moving better. I love to support people to do what they are passionate about doing. It could be as simple as picking up their kids or grandchildren, to working at their chosen profession or training for a triathlon or CrossFit (especially fun).

The support I have received from others has allowed me to get to where I am today, and I enjoy playing a part in that for others.

What Patients Have to Say About Garrett

“Garrett at Body Gears helped get back to 100%. I had been having wrist pain for a few months. I tried some home remedies, massage therapy, rest, ice, K tape, but after a few months I realized it wasn’t getting better. I read Yelp reviews for PT near me and decided on Body Gears due to the great reviews. Everything about my experience there was great. Garret, my physical therapist, was professional, knowledgeable and great to work with. He really helped me understand what was going on with my wrist and showed me what I needed to do to get back to pain-free. I would recommend him to anyone who needs PT, and I will definitely seek him out again if I ever have any other issues. He was exceptional at his job.”

What Patients Have to Say About Garrett

“These guys fixed me. I had a snowboard injury 3 years ago that left me with pain in my ribs and hip. Within a few weeks, Garrett and the Body Gears team fixed me. I highly recommend Body Gears and Garrett for any physical therapy needs. My only regret is waiting so long before I went to see these guys.”

-Dragos S. (Body Gears Graduate)

What Patients Have to Say About Garrett

“I highly recommended Body Gears to anyone experiencing pain, whether it’s an acute or a long-time injury. As a professional dancer, I have suffered hip pain for years from an old injury, and after being treated at Body Gears, I am sorry that I waited so long to seek help. Every physical therapist that I have interacted with takes the time to listen and understand my symptoms and works to help me set appropriate goals for my treatment. Garrett has helped me immensely to look at all of my body mechanics, even down to how I walk and sit, to understand how I’ve been compensating for my pain and in turn, over-using the incorrect muscles. He gives me pertinent (and creative) exercises to strengthen the areas that I have over-looked that help to relieve my immediate symptoms and to reiterate more functional movement patterns in my activities.

The highly-trained exercise technicians that work with me, either before or after my sessions, work to make sure that I comprehend the mechanics of each exercise and that I know how to do them effectively at home on my own. The front desk staff is always friendly and makes it easy to schedule appointments and handle billing matters.

Body Gears truly cares about your progress and making sure that you get back to doing all the activities that are important to you!

What Patients Have to Say About Garrett

“All the PTs and staff at Body Gears impressed me with their professionalism, kindness, and skill. I was referred there by a co-worker and would unhesitatingly recommend them to anyone looking for attentive, thorough, and holistic care. I worked with Garrett and Erica specifically, and felt like they both asked great questions and took my concerns seriously.

What Patients Have to Say About Garrett

“Garrett is an extremely intelligent, skilled, and talented person. He has displayed a much deeper understanding of the mechanics of the wrist than 2 specialist surgeons and a number of other physical therapists. He has been the only person who correctly diagnosed and provided relief.

What Patients Have to Say About Garrett

“I’m seriously amazed at how much progress has been made on my shoulder in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS at Body Gears Physical Therapy!!! For the better part of the last 2 years I’ve been forced to ice daily (sometimes 5+ times), had X-rays, 2 MRIs, 3 cortisone shots, 8 weeks of PT at another therapist, countless chiropractic sessions, and massage therapy– all the while I was still forced to live through and compete in borderline unbearable shoulder pain.

But thanks to Garrett and the team at BodyGears I have kissed that pain and suffering goodbye for good and am on track to be back to normal in no time. I simply can’t thank them enough!

If you’re contemplating surgery or need PT for an injury, please do yourself a favor and make an appointment TODAY!
