What Kane Has to Say

Why do you work for Body Gears?

Here we do hands-on treatment with our patients with a focus on functional movement, which I believe is the best method for treating ailments.

Which patients are your favorite to work with?

I enjoy helping any patient undergoing an injury or surgery to reach their fullest potential and return to their highest level of function.

What sparked your interest in physical therapy?

I became fascinated with sports and participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track growing up. I was particularly interested in the stresses the human body endures in athletics. After experiencing a few athletic injuries of my own, I received my first bout of physical therapy. This early experience sparked my interest and has now become a passion.

Tell me about your PT school experience.

I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Midwestern University.

What certifications do you have?

I am a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and certified in the Schroth-Barcelona method for treating scoliosis. I am working towards further certification with the Schroth-Barcelona Institute and becoming a Certified Functional Manual Therapist.

How do you stay active?

I like staying active by running, hiking, traveling, and biking outdoors, especially on nearby trails.

Describe your perfect Saturday.

Spending time with my family and friends (including spoiling my niece and nephew) while listening to country music and grilling out.

“As an avid runner-turned-cyclist and committed yoga teacher, I had little tolerance for the pain I was experiencing in my left hip. After years of trying alternative methods such as chiropractic, posture therapy, and corrective exercise, X-rays finally determined I needed a total hip replacement as the cartilage was completely gone. Kane Thompson helped me “pre-hab” my hip, glutes, and core to prepare it for surgery. I went in strong but was not prepared for the emotional component that follows major surgery. The entire team at Body Gears Oak Park was so supportive throughout my recovery. The manual therapy, accompanied by a challenging array of exercises was exactly what my body needed to get back in the saddle and on the yoga mat. Kane and the entire crew of exercise technicians provided a detailed summary of exercises for me to do at home and at the gym. I have recommended Body Gears to many of my students in Oak Park and Chicago. The level of care is extraordinary. Thanks to this amazing team of professionals, I am back to all of my pre-surgery activities stronger than ever.

“I have had pain for 6 months and have tried a variety of treatments from massage to chiro to other professional physical therapy. After seeing Dr. Kane Thompson once he had ideas of what needed to be treated. Each time I see him I am closer to full recovery. Kane is extremely talented in listening and trying different approaches to see what works. He has made a huge impact on my physical well being and I can not say enough about working with him as a professional.“

Lisa S. (Body Gears Graduate)

“I am active and athletic, and I recently had my 3rd ACL surgery.  I spent a couple of months of physical therapy at a large local health center where my therapist would work on several other clients simultaneously to me with minimal supervision. My knee was not recovering, I was in pain most of the day, and there was talk from the clinician of knee replacement and stopping most physical activity.  I sought out Body Gears after researching alternatives.  The staff at Body Gears were very encouraging. I worked with Kane and was usually his only client, he researched and created a treatment plan specific for me. He worked on addressing the causes of my injury while rehabbing my knee. He educated me on the dynamics of my body and tangible ways to restore function in my knee while providing me with the appropriate tools to recover. I’m now back to playing with my family, free of pain, and increasingly able to be active again.“

Ruth D. (Body Gears Graduate)

“Everything about the place and the experience is great. Kane is a thoughtful, smart, and thorough therapist, the vibe is great and totally professional.
Now that I’ve been there, I wouldn’t go see anyone else.“
