What Mike Has to Say

Why do you work for Body Gears?

To be with a like-minded group of professionals with a similar background in education. We strive for the same high quality of patient care and continue to push each other in our professional development.

What aspect of movement do you find the most fascinating?

The intricacies of the foot and ankle. There are 33 joints and more than 100 soft tissue structures including muscles, tendons, and ligaments. The interconnectedness of all these components makes treating each patient more complex but also unique and fascinating.

Which patients are your favorite to work with?

Every patient brings in their own story and a unique set of challenges which makes treating the whole body enjoyable.

What catchphrase do most of your patients remember you by?

“What’s for lunch/dinner?”

Tell me about your PT school experience, where, and why?

I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine. The program was very hands-on and manual therapy-based which gave me a springboard to obtaining my Functional Manual Therapy® certification. I also developed lifelong friendships with classmates who are now some of my best friends.

What certifications do you have?

I am a Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT) through the Institute of Physical Art. In the future, I would possibly like to pursue a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certification to help with the abundant golfer population in San Diego. I enjoy kettlebell workouts as well, and thus looking into a certification within that realm is also on my agenda.

How do you stay active?

Working out and running. I particularly enjoy doing kettlebell workouts on the beach and occasionally participate in yoga.

Describe your perfect Saturday.

Wake up and do a workout on the beach, followed by breakfast and coffee with friends, and then do something else outdoors later in the day (golf, frisbee golf, backyard BBQ, etc.).

What Patients Have to Say About Mike

“The team at Body Gears has changed my view about physical therapy and demonstrates how, in my opinion, physical therapy should be practiced. Body Gears is different from most PT clinics in 3 very important ways…

Firstly, the physical therapist spends most of the hour with you. Years ago I went to one of the big name PT clinics in the city due to some back problems I was suffering. What I didn’t know then was that most of the big name PT clinics have their therapists schedule multiple clients during the same hour in order to maximize revenue. So you end up getting just 10-15 minutes of actual time with the therapist before they have to move on to another client. The rest of the time, they put you in a corner to do some unsupervised “exercises”. The level and quality of manual manipulation were always very poor. At Body Gears, the PT spends nearly the entire hour with you. They don’t just see you for a few minutes and then put you in a corner. They spend the whole hour with you working to help fix you.

Secondly, the PT’s there actually collaborate in helping you. On my first visit to Body Gears, I was pleasantly surprised when other PT’s in the room jumped in to offer their assistance in helping me with my problem foot. It wasn’t just the PT that I was scheduled with that day that was helping me. It felt like an entire team of PT’s was there to figure out how best to help me.

And finally, the knowledge all the PT’s at Body Gears has is exceptional. I work in the fitness industry and I always feel like I come away from each PT session learning more and more about proper body mechanics and function. I am always very impressed and I feel like I am in good hands when I am there.

I can’t say enough about the staff and all the PT’s that have done some work to help me get back on my feet (pun intended). Mike and the rest have been great!

What Patients Have to Say About Mike

“I injured myself at work. I didn’t think it was that bad, but my doctor wanted me to be certain. The team at Body Gears has done a FULL assessment and I have learned quite a bit about how the entire body works together. Things I would have never thought were connected to my overall healing and the fact that I had more damage than I thought. I am excited that once I finish therapy I know I will be able to go back to work and not have to worry about injuring myself again.

THANK YOU BODY GEARS! (Mike and the techs are awesome)

What Patients Have to Say About Mike

“The attention to detail. As an elite athlete, it’s hard enough to deal with being injured and sideline during your season. So having a physical therapist who “gets it” and makes every effort to ensure that you, the patient, understand the purpose of each exercise and how it is helping you to recovery, get stronger, and back to doing what you love makes a world of difference for a speedy recovery.

Thanks, Mike for all that you have done!!

What Patients Have to Say About Mike

“I have been in PT for about 6 months now. I was in a very bad shape when I started and my progress so far is incredible: I walk! Like a person! I have been working with Mike (mostly). These guys are amazing, they truly care! The whole approach of Body Gears is great (and I have tried other PTs), it is really a hands-on work. They spend time with you. Even when you do exercises, they still assist and make sure you do it right. Not only they are great professionals, the whole atmosphere is very friendly and light, always uplifted mood in the room which helps to heal as well. Thank you, guys! I love you, but I hope to be done with you soon and never come back!

What Patients Have to Say About Mike

“Everyone at Body Gears is friendly, knowledgeable and treat their patients with the utmost respect. I had the pleasure of being Zane’s and Mike’s patient. They are very personable, attentive and ensure you understand your treatment plan. I was truly impressed by the education and care they had given me. I have been so amazed by this place and have probably told them that at every visit. I just can not say enough about this place. For the first time in years, I feel like I don’t have to restrict myself from activities and it’s all due to these great people. I encourage anyone in need of physical therapy to go to Body Gears because again, these guys are AMAZING!!! It is too bad I am moving out of state because I will miss the great care and the wonderful staff! Thank you- Zane and Mike!!!!!

What Patients Have to Say About Mike

“Hands down the best place I’ve found on Yelp.

– Professionals at the top of their game
– 100% focused on you the patient
– Seriously friendly staff

I’d never been to a physical therapist before, but when my doctor recommended I see one for my lower back I quickly looked on Yelp. I found the reviews for Body Gears helpful and I liked Body Gear’s website so I booked an appointment.

Each staff member I encountered was both courteous and professional. I was working with Mike Anderson and I found him to be both friendly and professional. He really made me feel confident in recovery, he gave me the knowledge to understand what was happening in my lower back (which it turned out was partly a weak core) and the tools to get better.

I enjoy cycling and try to put in 100 miles a week. I was sold on my first visit when I mentioned to Mike that after hearing of my lower back pain my doctor responded with “maybe don’t ride your bike so much”. Mike looked shocked when I relayed that info and said: “if you want to ride your bike 100 miles a week then you should be able to, and we’ll get you there”. I’m happy to say he did.

How’s this for service? I showed up for an appointment on the wrong day and they fit me. Thanks, Body Gears!”
