What Kit Has to Say

What aspect of movement do you find the most fascinating?

Seeing the different ways that people learn to work around their pain, muscle weakness or fatigue to keep moving is intriguing to me. Determining what muscles they are using and figuring out how to re-train more efficient activation patterns is a new puzzle every time that I can’t wait to solve.

Tell me about your PT school experience.

I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Boston University. In addition to being a great school, it was amazing to be learning and treating in a city with both a high caliber medical community and high caliber sports programs. Because of these opportunities, I gained experience working in large teaching hospitals as well as with high-level division one collegiate hockey teams

Which patients are your favorite to work with?

Given my background in sports – particularly hockey and soccer – I love treating athletes. I have a particular interest in the relationship between the hips, pelvis and lumbar spine and I love helping people who experience pain in these areas. Helping people who are trying to become more active to be as safe and biomechanically efficient as possible is also very rewarding and enjoyable for me.

What certifications do you have?

In addition to being a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I am also a Certified Athletic Trainer and have completed additional training in functional dry needling. Going forward I am looking to further my training in functional manual therapy techniques.

Why do you work for Body Gears?

There’s an environment here where colleagues are eager to continue learning and continue their own personal growth, which empowers me to do the same. At Body Gears, there is a collaborative atmosphere that fosters the exchange of knowledge and skills that is wonderful for me as a PT and also for our patients!

How do you stay active?

My workouts are my time to myself and I like to try different things. Running along the lakeshore path is beautiful in the summertime and a great way to decompress. I have also been playing around with kettlebells at the gym and I like the dynamic movements you can work on with them. Playing pick-up soccer is also something I really enjoy as well as biking around the city.

Describe your perfect Saturday.

A good breakfast, preferably with a bagel, eggs, and cheese. Then some premier league soccer (Chelsea fan) and maybe check out the local street fest or gallery.

What Patients Have to Say About Kit

“My experience at Body Gears was excellent. Kit was able to diagnose my issues methodically and in a way that helped me understand what mechanically was going on. And most importantly gave me the tools to change my body behavior and helped me take ownership. He was very thoughtful in curating the exercises and making sure they made sense and that I could do them properly. He really gets that having too many exercises or too difficult, that it’s not sustainable.
I really feel like I can now manage on my own and adjust my activities as needed. Thank you, Kit and Body Gears!”

– Maureen C. (Body Gears Graduate)

“I’ve had Achilles tendinitis for about a year. I recently moved from NYC to Chicago and Body Gears was the closest PT place near my house. I’m so glad I went! I worked with Kit as my PT and he was really attentive on helping me get better. He listened to my problems, set realistic goals and exercises and worked with me to figure out a regimen that will work. All in all such a great experience – head to this clinic, you won’t regret it.”

– Saveena M. (Body Gears Graduate)

“It has taken me a while to write this review because I’ve been out living my life thanks to Body Gears and Kit! After an ankle injury, life in a boot, and a total loss in my confidence with walking in general, I came to Body Gears. Little did I know that my sessions with Kit would not only relieve my physical pain but restore my trust in my body and the mental shift that had taken hold following my gym accident. The entire staff makes sessions fun, even when you have to do exercises that are challenging or scary post-injury. I would wholeheartedly recommend Body Gears to anyone looking to fully recover from an injury. Thank you all so much!”

Danielle R. (Body Gears Graduate)

“Great experience. Robert “Kit” and his colleagues had me back in motion. Their approach was sensible and effective. Easy to get to location…friendly group…and an app to follow when you were away from the session. I recommend giving this a try.”

H L (Body Gears Graduate)

“I’ve been searching for a physical therapist who could spend one-on-one time with me, I found him! Kit has taught me more about the function of my muscles and proper movement of my body than any other physical therapist I’ve seen in years. He answers my questions and listens attentively. I like the fact that I can go to the body gears app and perform the exercises as prescribed.
I give Body Gears and my physical therapist Kit a 10 plus!”

– Body Gears Graduate

“Kit is great and focused to help me heal and get back on the soccer field!”

– Body Gears Graduate

“I went to Body Gears because they are close to my office. After having an MRI done, the doc ordered me to get physical therapy for my knee which is missing cartilage. Kit Durban and the team (Kathy, Bailee, etc) did a really good job assessing, evaluating and coming up with a therapy plan. I couldn’t walk downstairs nor run prior to going in to meet Kit and the Body Gears team. Each employee is personable, helpful, accommodating, kind and eager to get one back to their physical shape/goal. They give access to your prescribed exercises in an app with videos so you can do them at home. They walk with you through the entire process very diligently to get you back to your healthy self. I would highly recommend Kit and Body Gears.”
