What Dan Has to Say

What sparked your interest in physical therapy?

I grew up in a Polish household on the northwest side of Chicago in Jefferson Park and went to high school at Loyola Academy. I sustained my first major injury playing sports there and it got so bad I had to stop playing entirely. After seeing different medical professionals, I found help through physical therapy and went on to play collegiate soccer. After that experience, I knew I wanted to help other people achieve the same kind of success that I did.

Why do you work for Body Gears?

At Body Gears, we work with patients longer than any other company I have been introduced to. Body Gears has a great culture for encouraging further education and inquiry.

Which patients are your favorite to work with?

My favorite are athletes since major hobbies of mine are soccer and running. However, I enjoy treating anyone and everyone. I think every person can benefit from physical therapy to optimize movement and improve their experiences.

What catchphrase do most of your patients remember you by?

When an exercise is tough, but I know you’ve got it in you – Can you do more?”

Tell me about your PT school experience.

I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Saint Louis University. I enjoyed PT school and the wide range of experiences, like my clinical rotation at the Ortho Scott Air Force Base. My professors were all influential in the way I now work and live. Central to the program’s philosophy, we were taught to contemplate, explore, and examine. I find this concept far-reaching and try to use it every day.

What aspect of movement do you find the most fascinating?

Gait – the way people walk. The combination of mobility and stability required to move is fascinating.

How do you stay active?

I like to try everything at least once. I have run two Chicago Marathons and swam Big Shoulders 2.5K. I am currently lifting, running, and playing soccer.

What Patients Have to Say About Dan

I was recently treated for TMJ dysfunction by Dan at Body Gears Clark St. location. I had great results with Dan’s treatment. After going through various oral surgeons, dentists, and other physical therapy treatments for my TMJ, it was so nice to finally find professionals that listened to my complaints and provided successful treatment. The treatment was catered to my specific complaint as opposed to generic TMJ exercise prescription, which is why I believe it was so successful. If you have any problems with TMJ, I highly recommend Dan at Body Gears!”

“I have been recommending Body Gears to my family and friends. I am impressed by the competence of the Body Gears staff and their compassion. Thanks to you, I am better condition today than anyone could have expected. I am 73 years old, but physically, I stand in a high percentile in relation to my peers. I am grateful in particular to Elizabeth and to Dan, and to all the team on Clark Street.”

What Patients Have to Say About Dan

“I have received excellent care at body gears. I like that they have their own app with exercise explanations and videos so that you can do them at home. I work with Dan and highly recommend him. The staff is warm and friendly. Currently, I am in the least pain since my operation three months ago!”

What Patients Have to Say About Dan

“Body Gears and this location specifically are absolutely amazing! I worked predominantly with Dan, but ALL of the PTs and techs are phenomenal. Dan is a true pleasure to work with- he is so incredibly knowledgeable and was really focused on maintaining strength and healing in the long run. My questions were answered in a timely manner and in ways, I could understand. Ahmie was also great- she is an insurance fiend and definitely helps explain all of the insurance ins and outs incredibly well. What I loved best about Body Gears is that not only was it a joy to go and complete my sessions, but I actually learned from them on why I had my injuries and how to prevent them in the future. They also spend more time than most PT clinics working with you and not just assigning exercises after talking to you for 10 minutes. I was recommended to this location by a friend in PT school that did his clinical at this location, and was not disappointed at all! I truly cannot suggest this location and Body Gears, in general, more intently.”
