What Erica Has to Say

Why do you work for Body Gears?

The collaborative team! We all work together to discuss cases, learn new treatment techniques and discuss how to improve the patient experience. It’s amazing to work with a group of individuals that really strive to improve every day.

Which patients are your favorite to work with?

This is a hard question! I really love all my current patients. They’re a great mix of triathletes, soon-to-be Mommas and Mommas finding out what physical therapy can do for their post-partum quality of life as well as athletes and weekend-warriors rehabbing for their next event. It’s a great mix and I love them all!

Where did you earn your physical therapy degree?

I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee where I did an extra focus in neurological rehab.

What certification are you currently working towards?

I am a Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, a Women’s Health Specialist, and certified in Level 1 of Functional Dry Needling. I also completed the Functional Manual Therapy® Orthopedic Residency through the Institute of Physical Art and would like to continue working towards a manual therapy certification.

Describe your perfect Saturday.

Spin class then brunch at my favorite local restaurant, Breakfast House. After that, usually catching up with family and friends to enjoy Chicago!

What Patients Have to Say About Erica

Dr. Erica Burhop deserves more than 5 stars. She has been my physical therapist for over a year as I have recovered from two major hip surgeries while in my early 20’s. I have been to several physical therapists, but after finding Erica, I will never go to anyone else. She is smart, sweet, and genuinely wants to help her patients. Her extensive knowledge allowed for the most well-rounded treatment a person could ever dream of. She was able to find the root cause of my symptoms and that is what she treated. She was also able to clearly and completely explain how my body was working and where my pain was coming from. I never felt in the dark about my treatment and the knowledge she shared with me allowed me to better understand how to help myself outside of my appointments. She always knew exactly how to help me and made it possible for me to achieve beyond my goals after surgery. I would definitely say that her treatment was life changing.  I always left my appointments feeling better than before and I completely trusted her with my care. If I ever need PT again, I will be calling Erica.”

What Patients Have to Say About Erica

“I discovered Body Gears in my search for a Women’s Health Physical Therapist for my pre & postnatal clients. When I wasn’t seeing any improvement in my own postpartum recovery with another physical therapist, I started working with Body Gears. At 14 months postpartum, I received confirmation that I had between a Grade 1 and 2 cystocele (bladder prolapse). I felt a setback in my recovery, but with the help of Erica Burhop, I was able to see an improvement in my incontinence after just 4 sessions. This was the first time postpartum I felt success in my recovery! I learn something new with each session about my body. Body Gears empowers their patients to learn about the ‘why’ behind their symptoms, rather than just treating the symptoms. I recommend Body Gears to all of my clients, when I am unable to address their issues within my scope of work as a personal trainer. It has been wonderful collaborating with them as a fitness professional as well.”

What Patients Have to Say About Erica

“The treatment I received at Body Gears changed my life. Erica, my therapist, is incredibly talented and personable! She was very attentive to my issues. She didn’t solely focus on the part of my body that was in pain but looked at the bigger picture as to what might be the cause and how it can be treated. She was great at communicating and explaining everything.  She adapted her treatment to my lifestyle as well -I am an avid yogi and she worked through different poses with me to ensure I was performing them properly and in proper alignment. I completed my treatment feeling strong, confident, and pain-free! Highly recommended!

What Patients Have to Say About Erica

“I am presently being treated by Erica at the Clinton Street facility. I have been to many local physical therapy companies the care and attention given at Body Gears far surpasses all the others. With Erica’s vast knowledge she has the ability to explain what is going on with me physically in a way that is easy for me to understand. She sends exercises directly to my email with diagrams for me to do at home. If you are looking for one on one therapy don’t look somewhere else.

What Patients Have to Say About Erica

“All the PTs and staff at Body Gears impressed me with their professionalism, kindness, and skill. I was referred there by a co-worker and would unhesitatingly recommend them to anyone looking for attentive, thorough, and holistic care. I worked with Garrett and Erica specifically, and felt like they both asked great questions and took my concerns seriously.
