What Kate Has to Say

Why do you work for Body Gears?

I work for Body Gears because my development as a physical therapist is highly valued and I always feel encouraged to take continuing education courses that I’m interested in. I also enjoy how collaborative we are within the clinic and with other healthcare practitioners to determine the best plan of care for each patient.

Which patients are your favorite to work with?

I love seeing a variety of patients and I feel that being open to seeing anyone who chooses physical therapy has enhanced my scope of practice. There is no one body part I like treating more than another and as a result, I am more able to identify connections between body parts and areas that might otherwise seem unrelated.

What catchphrase do most of your patients remember you by?

“If you don’t use it, you lose it”

Tell me about your PT school experience.

I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Long Island University. The biggest challenge for me was being away from my family.  I was very aware that I was going to have to work really hard in PT school, but doing that while living away from my support system was difficult. In the long run, living alone in Brooklyn really helped me become more confident and assertive!

What certifications do you have?

I am a Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT), Women’s Health Specialist, and certified in Level 1 and 2 of Functional Dry Needling. I also have training in Barral Visceral Manipulation Level 1 which helps to restore the dynamics of motion and suspension to organs, membranes, fascia, and ligaments.

What aspect of movement do you find the most fascinating?

I find the concept of “homunculous smudging” fascinating. It relates back to my catchphrase! If you don’t use a muscle, joint, or movement pattern, your brain won’t waste space on it. The area that used to control it will be replaced with something you use more often. This is why it can take a while for patients to retrain their bodies. They literally have to re-map their brains!

How do you stay active?

H.I.I.T. workouts, yoga, boxing, and carrying my 25-pound French Bulldog up and down the stairs!

Describe your perfect Saturday.

I‘m woken up by kisses from my French Bulldogs, Pippa and Goose, go to a fun exercise class, eat a yummy brunch, lounge out on our rooftop with friends, and end the day finishing up a knitting project.

What Patients Have to Say About Kate

“I highly recommend this establishment. I came here with a neck issue and was very hesitant at the start. Within, my first session they made me feel completely at home and relaxed. It is both a professional place of business and a place that makes you feel at home. Kate is wonderful. She explains everything she is doing, while also making you feel relaxed and at ease while she is working on you. I have felt so much better ever since I have started going and will continue to go in the future. Make sure you ask for Kate. She is awesome. They are all very educated in what they are doing and it shows. Don’t miss out on this place. It’s a healthy environment that will get you on the right track of feeling better. I know I do.”

What Patients Have to Say About Kate

“I highly recommend Body Gears Physical Therapy. A TMJ specialist directed me to Body Gears after injuring my jaw from a head trauma. The jaw injury and head trauma were causing migraines and a limited range of motion in my neck and jaw. After just three visits with physical therapist Kate, I felt an improvement in my jaw, neck, and headache symptoms. The physical therapy provided more relief than migraine medication.

Kate is extremely knowledgeable. I was highly impressed with her profound understanding of physical therapy, and effective treatments. She was sensitive to my needs and encouraging of my goals for physical therapy.  The therapist also ensured I completely understood the exercises I needed to practice at home.

Kate practiced other exercises such as good posture with me, which has ultimately benefitted my daily life. In a few visits, I learned about how to better care for my body as well as improve athletically. I would recommend Body Gears for any injury or issue as the therapists are truly experts. I am greatly thankful for how much Body Gears has helped me recover, and I look forward to future physical therapy sessions.”

What Patients Have to Say About Kate

“These physical therapists understand and manipulate “stuck” or immobile/out of alignment parts of the body to alleviate discomfort or pain in an effective way. Alongside treatment, they impart incredible functional knowledge and skills to clients so they understand and can co-manage the retraining of muscles, connective tissue, and skeletal bones, through targeted exercises and stretches at home. Their approach is excellent – professional, friendly, and on task. I am impressed by the therapists’ pursuit of considerable continuing education as well.  My treatment was mainly provided by Kate. I can recommend her with enthusiasm and confidence. I will continue to recommend them to friends and family, that is certain!
