Dr. Kate McKechnie, PT, DPT, CFMT, WOMEN'S HEALTH SPECIALIST - CLINIC MANAGER

A Chicago native, Kate has been participating in soccer, volleyball, running, and yoga from a young age.  Kate’s involvement in athletics and fitness spurred her interest about how the individual components of the body work together to perform complex movement patterns.  “I would find myself watching my teammates or peers move and try to figure out what made someone jump higher or get deeper into a pose.”  When Kate observed a few of her mother’s physical therapy sessions, she knew that she found the perfect career path that would blend her interest in the mechanics of the human body with her strong problem solving skills.  In 2010, Kate earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Northwestern University.

After her undergraduate schooling, Kate moved to Brooklyn, NY to attend Long Island University – Brooklyn, earning her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence in 2014.  While at LIU, Kate began taking courses through the Institute of Physical Art and quickly realized that the Functional Manual Therapy™ approach would set her evaluation and treatment skills apart from other new graduates.

Kate completed an internship with Body Gears while in school, studying under Sarah Lindquist, April Oury, and other members of the Body Gears Team.  During that time, Kate saw firsthand the powerful and exciting effect Functional Manual Therapy™ had on a diverse patient population.  “When I see patients get excited about their progress, it makes me excited, and I push myself to learn new manual techniques that can further facilitate change.”  With an environment focused on education and collaboration, Kate jumped at the opportunity to continue her career with Body Gears.

In her free time, Kate enjoys staying active with hiking and running, and she challenges her body and mind with yoga.  She is a die-hard Chicago sports fan.  More than anything (even the Bears), Kate loves spending time with her family, friends, husband, and puppy Frenchie.
