What Bob Has to Say

Where did you earn your physical therapy degree?

I received my Baccalaureate of Science (BSc) degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1994.

Have you completed any further education?

I earned my Doctor of Science degree (ScD) from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock Texas in 2018. My education thesis project was “Management of Mechanical and Movement Dysfunction for Nonarthritic Hip Pain. The project focused on designing a curriculum and measuring learning outcomes resulting from a continuing professional education class.

Have you ever been published?

I have been published in the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy (JOSPT) about physical therapy for femoroacetabular impingement, something I often see in my patients with hip pain. It was a lot of work but it was worth it to achieve my goal of being a published author.

LeBeau R, Nho S. The Use of Manual Therapy Post–Hip Arthroscopy When an Exercise-Based Therapy Approach Has Failed: A Case Report. J Ortho Sports PhysTher, 2014 (9) 712-721.

What certifications do you have?

I have achieved fellowship status from the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT). I completed this intensive program at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2013. I am currently on faculty and serve as a lecturer and mentor for fellows in training. In 2008, I completed the certification in Functional Manual Therapy (CFMT) from the Institute of Physical Art. In 2004 I was awarded the distinction of Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists and recertified in 2014.

What aspects of physical therapy interest you the most?

I enjoy treating people with all types of muscle and joint dysfunctions but have been particularly drawn to the hip and spine. Being able to combine manual therapy with movement training always keeps my treatment sessions interesting.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not in the clinic?

I enjoy working with my hands on hobbies such as woodworking, home remodeling, cooking, and gardening. I am typically trying to be a better scholar or craftsman, which leaves me little time to rest. I also enjoy hanging out with my wife and two growing girls, especially when we travel.

What Patients Have to Say About Bob

“Bob LeBeau at Body Gears was recommended by my hip surgeon. I’m 44 and an avid runner. I had a hip labral tear and arthroscopic surgery almost a year ago. I started therapy with Bob the first week after surgery and I have to say I am extremely fortunate to have been in such great hands.

Bob and the team at Body Gears helped me through recovery and rebuilding. I had been to other PTs in the past for other issues and never experienced good results. But Bob changed my mind about PT. It works if you’re with the right PT. Bob introduced me to dry needling too – which helped get to some of the deep tissue issues. I got to the point where I looked forward to the “hurt-so-bad, but feels-so-good” sessions. Short-term pain for long-term gain is what I always said. And it worked. I have had chronic neck and back pain for many years and Bob helped me with that as well.

I highly recommend Bob and Body Gears. I found compassion, complete care and a group of people who were just enjoyable to be around. They’re compassionate, kind and genuine people.

I’m back to running and getting stronger every day, thanks to Body Gears. I owe them dearly for getting me through the recovery and thank them profusely!”

What Patients Have to Say About Bob

“After 8yrs of chronic neck and shoulder pain, years of massage and physical therapy, trigger injections and medication to make it through a normal day, I wasn’t too optimistic about another round of PT.  However, Bob has given me hope that one day I might be pain-free.  He introduced me to dry needling.  A bit like acupuncture but since I’ve done that and it didn’t work, it’s quite different.  After the first session with Bob, I felt instant relief and for a longer period of time than with massage or injections.  Along with some PT, Bob has instilled some faith that I one day will be pain-free. Coming from my long history with the same ailments…that’s half the battle.  I highly recommend Body Gears and the miracle workers they’ve employed.”

What Patients Have to Say About Bob

“Bob LeBeau was my PT here, and besides the fact that he seemed to enjoy poking me with needles a bit too much (j/k), he was all around a great PT! He was genuine in his conversations and very good about explaining everything he was doing. He even videotaped me doing my stretches right on my phone so I wouldn’t have any excuses. I would highly recommend going to see him if you need PT.”

What Patients Have to Say About Bob

“I was diagnosed with a labral hip tear (FAI) and I saw two therapists prior to coming here. Two surgeons told me I would need surgery and the recovery would be long and hard. I tried Body Gears Physical Therapy and Bob was my main therapist. I heard good things about him from a nurse practitioner. Bob worked on my hip and was hands on. What makes Body Gears different from the rest is that you are not placed on machines and ignored. The techs watch over you very carefully. The therapists are hands-on and your issue is their top concern. The therapists work with you so you can become healthy. I observed other therapists and they are all very competent. Making you better is their top priority. The staff is very courteous and will always go the extra mile for you. Today, I am almost whole and I will not need the suggested surgery. My pain is barely noticeable. If I ever have an issue again, I will come to Body Gears. If you want the best physical therapy possible, the best recovery time and a place where the staff and therapists are warm and friendly, then this is the place for you. They have recently expanded too, so there are many private treatment rooms and they continuously train their staff. It is also very clean and sanitary. If you want the best care possible, then try Body Gears Physical Therapy, they are the best!”

What Patients Have to Say About Bob

“I came to Body Gears after being in pain for almost 9 months from an overuse injury. A few doctors all told me to just hang in there, stay off it, it just takes time. I was not getting better and being in pain with no help was depressing. After an endless Google search looking for a miracle, I was led to Bob at Body Gears. After only a short while seeing him, I found relief. My daughter was also struggling with a knee injury. After little success with the school physical therapist, I took her to Bob. She only needed to see him a couple of times and she was better! Bob is older and very experienced. He has every letter of the alphabet after his name because he certified to help in every area. Anytime I hear of anyone struggling or in pain, I always tell them, “do not suffer one more day, go see Bob!”

What Patients Have to Say About Bob

“My mother and I have both been to Body Gears for PT and can’t say enough good things about it. She fell and fractured her upper arm. The orthopedic surgeon who treated her said that, because of her age, she’d never be able to raise it above shoulder height again. Bob LeBeau didn’t agree with that. With her GP’s blessing, he started a rigorous PT course as soon as she could tolerate it. He was always upbeat and encouraging, and he explained what he was doing at each step. She now has 97% mobility in that arm/shoulder. I’ve suffered from chronic back and shoulder pain from years of sitting at a computer for hours a day. Unlike PTs I saw in the past, who told me I didn’t really need therapy because I had a wide range of motion, he evaluated my spine based on what was normal for me (rather than everybody else) and used deep manual therapy to loosen key muscles. Only after he freed up the “grumpy places” did he give me exercises that would help strengthen those muscles and keep them toned. I really appreciate the individualized approach Bob took and the genuine care and interest he showed toward patients and his dedication to staying current on all the advancements in the field.”

What Patients Have to Say About Bob

“Body Gears is a fantastic orthopedic PT place! Even if you have tried PT at other companies and you didn’t see the improvement you wanted, TRY BODY GEARS! Their staff is highly trained and very professional. You won’t get this kind of therapy elsewhere. I have seen them after two surgeries and I would not be where I am today without them. I have worked with Bob and Erica and they are all wonderful. The tag team is really a dream team. I have had therapy at other facilities and nothing compares to the care of Body Gears. I have recommended them to many friends and they have all thanked me profusely!”

What Patients Have to Say About Bob

“Dr. LeBeau is awesome! I came in with chronic shoulder pain and not able to have any quality of life because of the pain. I had already been in PT before and he far surpassed anything they were able to do. Now I’m almost pain-free and on my way back to running the distances I was prior to injury. Plus, he’s hilarious and friendly. What more could you ask for?”
